Bliss

Bliss was a great book, although it had to do more with racism and how two people of different color couldn't be together rather than black magic I think that's what I loved about the book. I think Lauren Myracle made black magic apart of the book so that more teens would read it. At moments in the book there's a bit of awkwardness between two characters but it was cleared up later on. I honestly think this book would've been less awkward without black magic but who am I to judge the author must have her reasons. All the parts just sort of flowed in together so the author must have put in a lot of effort to make that happen. The ending of this book was a huge shock but you realize this actually would've happened in that time era and even in today's world. This book shows that some people are misunderstood while others are judgmental and jump to conclusions about someone just by their color. And it goes to show not all stories have a happy ending. Overall I think I would've done without the magic part in this book  but it had a good storyline I just wished it was portrayed just a little bit different. So I would give this book three stars.

If you want to learn about the characters this gives you an idea at what your first impression would be like, I can't necessarily tell you what the characters are really are like or I would be giving away most of the book:
Bliss: A sweet and kindhearted person but is judged because her parents are hippies.
Sandy: A good person who would stand up for anyone
Sarah: A headstrong person who gets whatever she wants
Lawrence: Soft spoken and according to the book "everyone adores him" but you start to think twice when the book is done (about the everyone adores him part)
Mitchelle: He has a sense of humor but is protective of his friends
Thelma, Jolene, Deedee: All of them are a posy but only Jolene is the one who isn't racist or mean.
Grandmother: Still a bit off about people with color but not drastically like Sarahs dad who would kill.
